Joy's best friend seems to be growing apart from her, and her ex-boyfriend now has a beautiful, new girlfriend. On top of that, her mother has just given her a bunch of antique furniture, passed down through her family, to stuff into her small apartment. Among the furniture is a mirror through which her ancestors observe her. One night, as she is making dinner, an ancestor who she calls the Godmother makes her way into the real world to put Joy's problems into perspective.
